Saving Energy to Save the Planet

Lynden Clark
Saving Energy to Save the Planet

The Earth is our home and we have disrespected it by depleting its resources and destroying natural life. Human intervention is the source of most problems the earth faces. Fossil Fuels, one of the ways we have decided to use to power our inventions have actually affected “12.6 million Americans...to toxic air pollution from active oil and gas wells”. This proves how we are not only hurting the earth, but we are hurting ourselves through these processes. Renewable resources are a great way to change our destructive direction, however; resources like solar and wind are not accessible because of how expensive and new the technology is. Even though renewable sources of are hard to incorporate, their are still many ways to support the cause that are much easier and less pricey.

Saving our planet starts in our own homes. Simple things such as turning off the lights and the fan when you leave a room help save energy. Switching out your light bulbs from incandescent to LED's will limit the electricity used to light your space. If you leave your clothes out to dry during the summer you can omit the heat created by a dryer. Taking showers in cooler water and spending less time with the water on will limit your resources. Limiting electricity and water use will allow our earth to recover from the pollution of fossil fuels and rising temperatures. All of these acts are minimal, save you money, and save the Earth.

In addition to limiting your waste, it is important to watch where you place your waste. For instance, no littering at your house or in public places to keep area clean and sustain a healthy habitat for organisms in that environment. You should also follow the the 3 R rule: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. I have already covered ways that you can reduce energy in your home but I would like to detail how to reuse and recycle properly. For example, you have extra plastic bags in your house that continue to congregate; these bags can be reduced by replacing them with fabric ones. You may also reuse these bags by storing items in them and carrying them from place to place. After this is said and done, if these bags are appropriate to be recycled, you may place them in the nearest recycling bin so that they can be remade into other useful materials. Recycling infinitely benefiting both the community and the earth by "conserving fresh water", "reducing CO2 emissions", and using less fossil fuels.

In conclusion, it is important to continue expanding how we save energy and resources. Though uncomfortable at first, it is important to support our planet and to not break it down. Our earth is in a rough sport with CO2 and temperatures on the rise. Their are many things we can do from our own homes that will reduce harm done to the environment and benefit ourselves as well. By supporting others to save energy from their own homes and pushing others to follow the 3R's we can come back from the harm that we have done to our planet and have a home for our families for generations to come.

Questions:
1. After reading this article, are you pushed to save energy and be more green friendly in your household?
2. If you see someone who is ill-educated about our planet and how we affect it, would you educate them to be more responsible with resources?

Our Earth is slowly becoming destroyed. After reading about what we have done and what we could do to fix our mistakes, I feel more motivated to help change our destructive ways. I am always reminded to turn off my lights and turn off the water whenever I can, and now I feel I need to do that not only for money saving but for saving Earth. While what I only do may help a little, but educating the people around me will certainly make an impact. The more I tell about tactics to improve the earth, the more people will do it and make a difference, because once I tell them, they will tell others and so on. I hope me and the people around me will soon know the best ways to s a dour energy and resources on Earth. Saving our energy and using it wisely is extremely important for the state of our earth, and I feel that more people should know how to do this.

We have been rapidly depleting resources before the Earth can replenish them. In countries like ours, we have access to these resources still, but in other areas of the world, these resources are slowly dwindling away. We must take action in this crisis and limit our use of resources. Personally, I will use less water by doing easy things such as turning off the faucet sooner. Others can do the same, and all the water saved by the people can be significant, and it can actually make an impact. It is critical to inform others about this crisis too, because simple actions can equate to huge impacts, which could save the planet.

Yes I will, and make sure to turn my lights off when I leave the house. Yes. My brother takes hour showers, and I continuously tell him to stop, and cut down on his water consumption.

After reading this article and coming to know that our earth is slowing depleting because of what we have done, I decided that I want to save energy, be more green friendly, and recycle more than using the trash. I will teach them that what they are doing is affecting the Earth and our earth is getting slowly destroyed everyday, however, if they stop, then we can start to conserve energy and we can all save our earth instead of affecting it.

This post really airs out how much we need to do in order to get the world back on track, and I doubt we would be able to make all the necessary changes independently. To actually make a dent in the enormous problem we have created by doing all of these irresponsible things, we will need to be on an organized front in doing so. Groups like the UN need to start harshly regulating the economic impact countries have, and need a way to enforce rules and regulations. Without a bad cop to initiate change for the environment nothing will ever get done and we will forever live in a dump.

This article really shows how easily it is to do little things to help save the earth. I very much want to help preserve the earth, and do what I can to be more green friendly. I normally take colder showers and always turn lights off when I leave the room. These little things may not seem like much, but in the long run will help save the earth if everyone did them. If I saw someone who wasn’t educated on our planet and how to save it, I would definitely talk with them and tell them how they could help.

This article definitely has pushed me to save energy and more or less gave me simple ways on how to do so. I, as well as many teens my age, take their electricity for granted and forget the simple things that could help the environment. We find ourselves in such a rush that we forget things, such as the fan and lights, that could create catastrophic effects. I have explored this notion before, but I continue to believe that the most important thing we can do is inform others about what we know is a good way to preserve the environment. Rather than just condemning them for their lack of knowledge, we should support the environment by showing them specific ways to help them do their part.

I agree that it is critical that each human reduces the amount of energy they use in their home for the betterment of the entire Earth. It is important that each and every individual limits the amount of waste they put into the environment. However, that being said, the only way that the entire Earth can make a drastic difference in the amount of waste that gets put out is government regulation and systematic change. It is not enough for individuals to reduce their energy output. Instead, laws and regulations on a wide-scale need to be implemented for companies to be held accountable.

This article opened my eyes to the amount of energy we waste daily, which can lead to major consequences later in the future. Small actions such as turning off the lights or taking shorter showers are a few actions that can help save our planet, however, we would need everyone to contribute not just a select few. We need more people to take action because if we keep continuing at this rate, we will slowly be depriving the Earth of its resources that are crucial for our survival.

This has helped me to further recognize Howe we are damaging the earth with what we do, it shows that the energy that we waste can come back to hurt us later. We need to start with small steps like turning off the lights and everyone around the world should help contribute as well, becuase then we can really make an impact on the world.

This article has opened my eyes to the drastic amount of energy wasted by human beings. It is astonishing what is done to create it and how it has been wasted. I am extremely pushed to be more environmentally friendly in my household by using lights only when needed, using the heater for water less, and using power in all aspects as less as i can. Yes i will educate them because there is a finite amount of resources which i would like to not waste.

After reading this article, I feel as if the resources my family has employed in our household are simply not enough. I believe we need to take more action and consider factors we may have never considered before. I never knew changing to LED lights had such an impact on the environment. If someone is ill-educated about the environment it would be beneficial to highlight the recent natural disasters whose effects could have been minimized if it weren't for human effects on the environment. For instance, humans building in flood planes significantly impacts our ability to rebuild after a major hurricane.

I do agree that individuals taking action to combat this would add up and make a difference. However, 70% of the carbon footprint is due to large corporations of the fossil fuel industry. Their goal is actually to make the public feel as if turning off the lights more frequently and taking shorter showers will “save the Earth”, but the reality is that change would be negligible due to how massive our emissions are. These corporations and the fossil fuel industry need to be held accountable and laws and regulations must be furthered.

after seeing the video i feel very motivated to become eco friendly in my household and become responsible to let everyone know I'm my household where everything goes in the right place. If I saw someone ill educated about where everything goes I would let him or her know where the things go in the right place not the wrong place.

I definitely do feel inclined to rude UCD elegiac and fuel usage and want to educate others on why they should too. However, even if everyone decides to reduce their electric and fuel usage, the Earth is already affected by the previous years of unsustainable way of life. In addition, the amount of people living that still need a minimum amount of electicity and fuel will still damage the Earth. This is why I think that while doing the three R’s are important, it is vital for us to put more effort into making solar and other renewable resources more efficient and cheaper. The electric cars used to be extremely expensive, but the prices are now reducing, and in the same way, with enough time and energy spent, we can do the same with renewable resources.

I try my best to conserve energy the best I can. I used to leave lot of lights on in the morning and not turn them off when I left for school, so that would waste a lot of energy and raise the energy bill. Now, I look to see if I turned off the lights everyday before I leave for school, and that is my active effort to save energy.

After reading this article, I feel more educated and prepared on saving energy and resources within my household. As a result I feel encouraged to take action towards becoming “greener”. In addition, after reading this article, I believe that everyone should have this knowledge or at least hear about why it is important to save energy and resources. Therefore, if I see someone who does not know or is ignorant about how we affect our planet I will take the responsibility to enlighten him or her.

Due to our overuse of nonrenewables, we are now in a predicament that requires us to be fast and drastic in the changes that we make. Collectively as human beings we waste energy, while there are people who don't have electricity. After reading this article, I understand why my stepfather always talks about why the lights have to turned off. However, we must realize that 70% of the carbon footprint is due to large corporations such as the fossil fuel industry--who might I add have been aware of incoming climate change since the 1970s and chose to withhold that information-- In order to combat the damage we have done to our earth we have to start passing increasing regulations on those who are responsible for the majority of the carbon footprint.
